Friday at the Foremans

Last night we had the pleasure of visiting Eric's roommate from college, Sam, and his family.  For the past two years, his little brother has raised a cow (who eventually goes to visit the big pasture in the sky) that we split with Sam and his wife Katie.  Katie made excellent home-made pizza (using some of the new beef) and some very fancy parfaits.  See their chalk board?  She writes the menus on it-so dang creative!

 

We were also entertained by their charmingly cute daughter Ruthie.  Eric had a good time making faces at her.  I think she liked it too.

Hot In Here

Oh it was hot!  Last night the girls and I attended the fourth Muny production of the summer, Dreamgirls.  Despite the heat, we were in for a real treat because the character of Effie White was played by Jennifer Holliday, whom originated the role on Broadway.  I got chills listening to her belt out the songs and I have never seen so many standing ovations at the Muny!

This week we started at Fitz's.  See those massive root beer floats?!  We had no idea they would be so big!

Great show but awful heat! Here's hoping that next week is a bit cooler!

A Chicago Bridal Shower and Bachelorette Party

Just got back from a whirlwind trip to Chicago to celebrate my college roommate's bridal shower and bachelorette party.  I'm super exhausted but the fun was totally worth it!

Jen's shower was a lovely little outdoor shin-dig.  Aren't the pom poms and lanterns cute?! I love the color scheme!

Pretty girls and delicious food were abundant.

We played some fun games too.  Our TP dress was complete with a mermaid skirt and sweetheart neckline. 

Also, we won at "First Date" Scattegories using the letter "J" (for Jen.) How could we not win with an SLP on our team?!

The happy couple.  Tom was there for most of the shower.  I've never heard of the guy attending an all lady shower (a couple's shower, yes.)  Maybe it's a Chicago thing?!

I had a great time hanging out with my old roomies!  It's crazy to think about how long it's been since we lived together.  4 years. 

Wow it feels like yesterday.  Now we're all about to be old married ladies.  Congrats Jen!

Classroom Pinterest Project

Man, 5:45 is going to be such a rude awakening after my 10:30 AM wake-ups for the past month and a half!  I digress, back to the school project.

The other day, I was seriously considering pulling the trigger on buying a pocket chart for my classroom.  For those of you that have no idea what that is, it's basically hanging file folders that are more accessible while you're working with kids.  See below.

My folders and duct tape cost me about $7.  That's a $20+ savings!  I realize I didn't get quite as many pockets, but that's ok.

I also made mine a little differently because I wanted my papers to stick out long ways.  If you're interested in my changes, leave a comment and I'll let you know how I did it.

Last night was show #3 at the Muny-Aladdin.  It was awesome!  The genie stole the show.  I was a little skeptical about how he would be portrayed, but he was so expressive and made so many great jokes about our city.  If you get a chance, go see it! 

The gals.  We were missing two of our crew, but had a lovely time with new friends.  Man, were we grateful that the temps were in the 90's rather than 100's like last week.

The Fountain and Chicago!

You may have guessed that Eric and I were out of town again due to the lack of posts.  You would be correct.

Perhaps, you're guessing by the title of my post that the M's latest family jaunt was to the windy city.  You would be wrong. 

Last Tuesday the gals and I went for show #2 at the Muny, Chicago!

Beforehand we went to a really neat little restaurant called The Fountain on Locust. It's a retro place with tons of fancy ice cream specialties, many of the adult-only variety. 

Mary Beth and Myronna were curious about "The World's Smallest Ice Cream Cone."  It was no joke!

I had to try the pretzel cone and it didn't disappoint.  Check out The Fountain on Locust's website.  We gave the restaurant six thumbs up!

As for Chicago! we had a great time.  This was my first time ever seeing the production and the dancing and music were great!  We also had a very pleasant evening weather-wise before all the crazy 100-degree temps set in.

Thoroughly Modern

Happy first day of summer! 

Last night I had the pleasure of joining some lovely ladies for an outdoor production of Thoroughly Modern Millie.  None of us had actually ever seen it before and it definitely didn't disappoint.  The dancing was phenomenal (tap, my FAVORITE!) and the character Ms. Meers was hilarious!  We'll actually be gathering every Tuesday evening to see some great shows.  Next up, Chicago!
