Pumpkins and Apples and Burlap, Oh My!

In honor of our new season, 912 ELMTree got some much needed spiffing over the weekend.  Hubster dug all my fall decs out and I'm very happy with the update.

Guess what I got?! More baskets! (I should really get help for this addiction.)

That herringbone pumpkin from Target is one of my faves.  I love the texture it adds to the bookcase.

My burlap was $3 from the garden section of Lowe's. Score!

 

Aren't the candles neat? I ordered them off Etsy after seeing them in Good Housekeeping.  The french writing on them plus the burlap give the house a rustic-kinda-feel that I'm digging right now.  Tres cozy!

Basket Case

Here's something you probably didn't know about me.  I'm a bit of a basket addict.  Try as I might to stay away from them in the store, there's something about them that beckons me.  Like a siren.

 

 

They're just so dang useful for organizing and hiding all the crap you don't want people to see.  Old Xmas decorations?  Hide it in a basket.  Organize your medicines?  Toss 'em in a basket.  A landing spot for towels?  That's right, a basket. 

Anyone else have a basket addiction out there?

Fall Jars

I switched things up a little in anticipation of cooler temps.  There's still an entire box of fall things in the attic just waiting to come out-can't wait!

Lantern Sprucing

Today I received some news that I will be splitting my middle school and another elementary school this year!  Now I'm mentally prepping myself for the difference...

Anyhoo, I started sprucing my lantern this weekend.  My intention was to make it summery and not too fallish, yet at least.

DIY Classroom Banner

Over the weekend, I made a super cute banner for the speech room out of hemp/twine and leftover scrapbook paper.  In other words it cost nada dollar.  Here's how it turned out...

Isn't it cute?!  I think it would also be very cute for parties or showers.  Most likely I'll hang it by my desk to perk things up a bit.  I might add "welcome" or my name to it too.

Porch Spiffing

Before heading down to New Orleans last week I switched up a couple things on the porch.  It went from this:

I like this better because it doesn't feel as bridal to me.  Very relaxing.

The shelves also got de-cluttered a bit going from this:

I buy ferns every year and usually I hang them (and they inevitably die) so I'm hoping that by being in pots, the transition indoors will help me keep them alive easily. 

Fleurs

These little gems are from Aldi, of all places! I was in line to check-out late last week and thought they looked so cheerful.  They add just the right splash of happy orange so I forked over the $3, cut them down to size, and put them in an old glass candle holder.

Kitty likes them too.  Happy hump day!

Hanging Out

It's summa time!  This is my second day to bask in the gloriousness that is summer vacation!  As you may or may not know, I have a difficult time sitting still so I'm accomplishing quite a bit around 912 ELM Tree.

To start, I finally got around to hanging my vintage plate that I talked about purchasing here. 

I didn't want to use a bulky plate hanger, so after a quick Pinterest search, I found that you can bend a paperclip to discreetly hang plates!  Hot glue and a tiny piece of fabric are also necessary.  The plate has actually been hanging for a couple days now and so far so good with the stability.
